Treating Gum Disease
At Dell’Acqua Choi Dental Studio, we take a personalized approach to treating gum disease, depending on how advanced it is. The earlier we catch it, the easier it is to treat—and sometimes even reverse.
Early-Stage Treatment (Gingivitis)
If your gum disease is still in its early stage, called gingivitis, we can often manage it with:
- One or two professional cleanings
- Improved brushing and flossing habits
- Tips for better at-home oral care
No long-term damage has been done yet, so it’s the perfect time to act.
Advanced Gum Disease (Periodontitis)
If the disease has progressed, we may recommend a deep cleaning called scaling and root planing:
- The area is gently numbed for comfort
- We remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline
- Root surfaces are smoothed to help the gums heal and reattach
- We may also suggest medicated rinses or tools like an electric toothbrush to support healing
What If Deep Cleaning Isn’t Enough?
If your gums don’t respond fully to deep cleaning, we may refer you to a Periodontist (gum specialist) for further treatment. In some cases, gum surgery may be needed to reduce deep pockets and make it easier to keep your teeth clean and healthy.
The key to stopping gum disease is early action and consistent care. If you’re noticing signs of gum irritation or haven’t had a dental cleaning in a while, schedule your visit with us today. We’re here to help you protect your smile—every step of the way.
